Commemorating the 55th year since Niibori Guitar was established
2012 Public performance of N-Orch. & NE in Italy (Milano & Venice) attained big success with all standing ovation!

Kiyomi Niibori (a member of NE & Ladies' Quartet, Master of Arts in Music)

Public performance in Italy, commemorating the 55th year since the first establishment of Niibori Group, in Milano and Venice in November, 2012, attained again big success with all standing ovation. The public performance by Niibori Guitar Philharmonic Orchestra (N-Orch.), with Grand Orchestra organized with 100 members as the main, was held at the big hall of National Conservatorio di Musica “Giuseppe Verdi” di Milano on Nov. 16 and the public performance by Niibori Guitar Ensemble (NE) in Venice was held at Santa Maria della Pieta, closely related to Antonio Vivaldi, on Nov. 17.
It should be specially mentioned for this time that Dr. Hiroki Niibori, establisher of above orchestras and Niibori Group, did not conduct. This was the first case for the public performance by N-Orch., and it sometimes happened for overseas public performance by NE and student’s orchestra. Another one should be specially mentioned is the half of program was consisted of original pieces of music composed by Japanese. Many of them were composed for guitar orchestra and Japanese music was splendidly expressed. For example, sound of drums, Gojinjo Daiko and Ishikari Daiko, was expressed only by knocking the bodies of guitar in the 2nd movement of “Three Scenes in Japan” composed by Mr. Masaaki Hayakawa and both of rasgueado and stroke are absolutely necessary for the 3rd movement, set Yagibushi as the theme. Next, the court music of ancient Japan was heard in “HANA NO EN”, describing GENJI STORY, composed by Mr. Kengo Momose, and world of elegance was splendidly expressed by costarring with SHO. The sound of SHO and HICHIRIKI easily harmonized with guitar, plucked string instrument just the same as KOTO or BIWA, and that enabled to suitably express Japanese ancient music.
It will not be seen in other country, and it will be said as only Japan, guitar, only Niibori (N-Method) sound made it possible. Folklore tasted “Travelers of Wind”, composed by Mr. Toshinori Sugihara, was performed with adding instruments for folklore = Charango, Quena, Zampona, Bombo leguero, Chapchas etc. For interesting instrument, some sound pipes were used to express sound of wind.
Originally, organization for folklore includes guitar giving natural sound and audience gave shout of joy as performed with putting racial clothing of Andes on and joyful actions.
“Rock of Mozart”, performed by men’s sextet = DANROK, composed by young composer Mr. Yudai Hatanaka, using many master pieces by Mozart as the motif, was finished as hard rock style ---- it will be said as harmony of rock and Mozart.
This sound will also be said as possible only by guitar. And his overture “Ponte Felice”, expressing charms of each part of guitar orchestra by N-Method was suitable one for opening of the concert.
Saying only by guitar, singing to own guitar accompaniment is a natural performance and singing to guitar orchestra = member of orchestra sing to own instrument is frequently performed in Niibori. Audience of first comer to concert of Niibori seemed to be considerably surprised. Certainly, it will not be seen at general wind and string orchestra. Chorus, said as singing to own instrument, were performed in “HANA NO EN”, “Travelers of Wind” and “Porta Romana Bella” performed as encore. Pieces for encore in overseas’ public performance of N-Orch. and NE were often singing the song of the district with local language. Basically overseas’ public performance are performed from memory and this is also performed and sang from memory. Words are language of each country and they are English, German, Korean ---- it was Italian for this time.
Pieces of music were selected and arranged according to requests by contacting with local peoples to perform and frequently performed piece of music, seemed to be Japanese would not know. If the piece sang in Milano for this time was world’s famous canzone, audience would not be surprised. But, it would be a strong impact singing the song of their town, Milano to own orchestra in local language from memory. Then, the concert became to a state of bubbling excitement with enthusiastic all standing ovation.
Not all pieces with strong originality were performed. Famous pieces for guitar such as Vivaldi’s masterpiece = “Autumn” from “Four Seasons”, Guitar Concerto D major (with many soloists in Milano and student of Conservatorio di Milano = Mr. Pietro costarred), Guitar Concerto A major by Giuliani, and others such as “Funiculi funicula”, “Ciribiribin” both in baroque style, “Io Che Non Vivo Senza Te” composed by Donaggio = graduate of Conservatorio di Milano were performed.
Famous “The variation of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” known by every body in the world with beautiful sound of cembalo guitar (of each sound range) ensemble, familiar pieces for European, Italian such as Flute Concerto, Di Fledermaus Overture by Strauss were also performed, thus the program giving deep impression for audience without be tired of was presented.
These repertoire and programming will be said as results from pursuing limitless possibility of guitar ensemble (orchestra), continuous research work, continuous challenge, and 55 years’ history of Niibori continuously bringing up talented persons.
Dr. Hiroki Niibori is the establisher and musical director now. He unfortunately did not go abroad for this time but power of the method and public performance by successors such as Kazuyuki Terada (conductor) and others attaining big success with all standing ovation for both of the concert are being talked much about in the world.
We are deeply grateful to Mr. Motoaki Nakamura in Milano, Mr. Masayuki Kato, Mr. Bernard Maillot president of SAVAREZ, all professors of Conservatorio di Milano, and many other persons supported to realize this public performance.
