Next Topic No.2 (NIIBORI GUITAR WEB PAGE 'NIIBORI GUITAR WORLD' WAS FINALLY OPENED!)
As we introduced before, N-Academy is a generic name for US Foundation International Niibori Guitar Music Academy (Yokohama campus), Educational Foundation Nihon Guitar Music Conservatory (Izu campus) and Educational Foundation Niibori Guitar Music Academy (Joetsu campus). It is the only academy for the guitar in Japan that has a high school course and a college course. Dr. Hiroki Niibori serves as a principal of each academy. Their common feature is the curriculum that place the importance on Niibori Method. [Please refer Harmony vol.305 (May issue of 1996) for detailed information]
Not only classical guitar course, they provide a variety of courses for electrical guitar, piano, vocal, conducting and so on. Especially, the classical guitar course that has the longest history, provides a high level curriculum and the class is supported by lots of professional instructors. Probably, there is no music school that has the instructors for the alto guitar, bass guitar, cembalo guitar and so on in the world. And there is a course to acquire a diploma of Honolulu University. Of course, the orchestra class has been conducting since the academies were established 40 years ago.
Class to be an instructor is also provided. In addition to a method of instruction, students learn school management, public relations and anything useful in the future. As on the job training, students work as an instructor in the schools.
Until now, lots of people learned Niibori Method and made a brilliant debut in the music field as a professional musician. There are graduates who formed their own guitar orchestras and having musical activities in various places. One of the graduates came from abroad established a fine music school in his home country.
New Face Concert has the meaning of a graduation examination. Students have to play a concerto as a soloist at the concert to graduate. They are required to select a concerto they play and musical instruments that are suitable for it, and arrange or compose a concerto by themselves. Through such activities, their comprehensive ability as a musician is tested. And to perform a concerto, it is necessary to unify the orchestra that backs up a soloist. So his humanity, character and reliability are also evaluated.
This time, concertos by various types of original guitars were performed a lot. Concertos that the alto guitar served soloists were, Concertino No.6 "Pretty Rabbit" (Hiroki Niibori), L'Estro armonico Op.3-12 No.1 (Vivaldi), Concerto C-major No.1 (Vivaldi). And concertos that the guitarron served soloists were L'Estro armonico Op.3-6 No.1 and Csikos Post. The most interesting one was Theme of 'Symphony No.9' (Beethoven) by electric guitar arranged by Kengo Momose. Of course, concertos by traditional classical guitar such as Guitar concerto A-major (F. Carulli) and Concerto D-major (Vivaldi) were also played.
Every player was applauded warmly and received flowers after the performance. We are looking forward to seeing their prospective futures.
Students from abroad are welcomed. We hope that they learn Niibori Method at N-Academy, and introduce guitar orchestras and our concept of world peace into their native countries in the future.
